Syndication
Syndication Cells allow content to be pulled from other School of Medicine (SOM) website(s) and displayed on your own. This feature supports the sharing of various types of content, including:
- News – display the latest news relevant to your website by syndicating news posts from other SOM websites.
- Events – display relevant events from other SOM websites to keep your audience informed about important activities.
- Directory profiles – this is only available for sites utilizing the new directory plugin.
Note: when visitors interact with syndicated content, such as news posts, events, or profiles, they will be redirected to the website hosting the actual content.
Key Advantages
- Efficiency: Syndication eliminates the need to duplicate content creation efforts. Instead, websites can leverage existing content from other sites, saving time and resources.
- Automatic Content Updates: One of the significant benefits of syndication is that any updates made to the content on the hosting website are automatically reflected on syndicated websites as well. This ensures that information remains current and accurate across all sites.
Syndicate From Your Own Site
You can also use Cells to syndicate content from your own website. This allows you to take advantage of the design and layout options available in the Cells plugin, providing greater flexibility in how your content is displayed.
Use Cases
Newsroom
The website stands as a valuable resource for websites seeking to bolster their news content. By syndicating pertinent news posts from the Newsroom website, you can enrich the news section of your own site. This allows you to augment your site’s news section with timely and engaging content.
Even if you have news content of your own but wanted to increase the amount of news on your site, the syndication Cell offers flexibility. It allows you the option of displaying syndicated news mixed with your own news posts.
Parent to Division Website
Syndication is often used on division and lab websites to display content (news, events, profiles) that is already created on their department website. They simply syndicate the desired content rather than recreate it. By syndicating content from the department website, division and lab websites ensure consistency in messaging and information dissemination.
Syndicated News
In the Department of Medicine, a communications specialist manages news dissemination across department and division websites. News originates from the department site and is automatically syndicated to division sites for efficient sharing.
Syndicated Events
The Pediatric Education website syndicates Grand Round events from their Department website.
Syndicated Profiles
The “Our Fellows” page on the Department of Medicine inverts this process by pulling directory profiles from their various Division web sites. This allows the Divisions to manage their own content and alleviates duplicate content on the Department web site. This example also demonstrates how multiple instances of Cell syndication can be used on a single page.
