To ensure a smooth exam experience, it’s crucial to keep your exam software up to date. Software updates provide essential security patches, bug fixes, and performance improvements, and ensure compatibility with the latest exam platform features. Outdated software can lead to technical issues or errors during your exam.

Students should make sure that their devices are properly connected to the eduroam wireless network prior to every exam for the best results. Managing your Startup Apps and Background Programs:

Closing all unnecessary background apps and processes before opening an exam lockdown browser is crucial for a smooth testing experience. Doing this minimizes the risk of technical issues during the exam, by limiting programs being monitored by the lockdown browser. Background apps can sometimes trigger false flags in the lockdown browser, causing the user to be locked out and barred from re-entering the exam until those programs are closed. Closing these apps educes the chances of the system mistakenly identifying them as suspicious.

Common Problem Programs and Apps:

  1. Messaging and Communication: Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, WhatsApp.
  2. Cloud Storage and File Sharing: Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud.
  3. Study and Note-Taking: Evernote, OneNote, Microsoft Word

Welcome to an exciting year at Carolina! This year, we begin with a revamp of the Student Tech Guide. Much effort has been put into updating this site over the summer to provide more direct links to information you need the most, and work is continuing over the course of this year to ensure content remains fresh. We recommend paying special attention to the Software You’ll Need page to get information on how to get several pieces of software you may need for your studies.

Returning this year will be our “Tech Tips” which will for the first time be targeted at our faculty/staff population in addition to students. We encourage you to browse the existing ones as well as keep up to date with the new ones for awesome tips on how you can use the tools available to you more productively.

The time has come to release your ºÚÁÏÍø issued iPad from management so you may utilize them as you see fit going into Residency. iPads will beÌýreleased startingÌýMonday, May 6, 2023, at 2:00 PM.

Below are a few things to keep in consideration:

  • What do I need to do?Ìý–ÌýBefore May 6,Ìýplease make sure your device isÌýpowered on and connected to a stable Wi-Fi network with internet access. This will ensure our commands will be able to reach theÌýiPadÌýand remove the management profile when sent at 2:00 PM. To confirm yourÌýiPadÌýis no longer enrolled in management, check to make sure you no longer have the ºÚÁÏÍø Self-Service app on yourÌýiPad.
  • ºÚÁÏÍø Messages and BrandingÌý– AfterÌýrelease, you will continue to see some ºÚÁÏÍø branding and things left over from when the management profile was on the device. If you wish to get rid of these items, you may choose to factory reset yourÌýiPadÌýafter graduation to start from scratch after theÌýiPadÌýisÌýreleased.
  • SecurityÌý– Your passcode will stay the same, but we will no longer be able to find your device and lock it if it is lost. Please check that Find MyÌýiPadÌýis turned on in iCloud Settings. You can find instructionsÌý.
  • AppsÌý– AllÌýfreeÌýapps will remain on theÌýiPad. Any app that ºÚÁÏÍø paid for will be removed since it is no longer in management (Anki, Heart Murmurs Pro, Lab Values, Physical Exam, etc.)
  • Do I need to return my device?Ìý– Nope! This is your device to keep and do with as you please. We hope that it will aid you in your clinical years or during downtime to destress and watch Netflix. Whatever you decide, we hope it has served you well. If you plan to sell or trade in yourÌýiPad, follow’sÌýÌýof steps to take before selling after it isÌýreleased.
  • Patient InformationÌý– We highly recommend deleting and re-installing any EMR programs on theÌýiPadÌýto clear the memory and ensure all patient records have been removed. We will no longer have the ability to remotely wipe your device, so please make sure you delete any patient information stored anywhere else on yourÌýiPad.
  • Support during the removal?Ìý–ÌýPlease do not reply to this e-mail for assistance.ÌýEnter a ticket withÌýÌýwith any questions or issues during the removal of the management profile. Be sure to include yourÌýiPad’s serial number.
  • Support after removal/graduation?Ìý–ÌýPlease do not reply to this e-mail for assistance.ÌýAfter graduation, you will have a limited period in which you can continue to enter tickets with your Onyen. For issues with the removal of the management profile, enter a ticket as above including yourÌýiPad’s serial number.If your stops working, you can call 919-843-9086 to request a ticket be entered for yourÌýiPadÌýremoval including your name, yourÌýiPad’s serial number, and an e-mail and phone number where you can be reached.For any issues other than removal of the management profile, you will need to reach out toÌýÌýdirectly.
