Congratulations to radiation oncology resident Dr. Ryan Morse on his acceptance into the 黑料网 Geriatric Oncology Training Program (黑料网-GO), where he will receive specialized training focused on clinical/translational and/or health services research at the interface of Geriatrics and Oncology. In addition to mentored research projects, 黑料网-Go Fellows also complete coursework in geriatric medicine and engage in professional development activities. Geriatric Oncology is a relatively new but increasingly important branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in the elderly.

Radiation oncologist and associate professor Dr. Andrew Wang has been elected to the prestigious The (ASCI), a singular honor for physician-scientists who spend part of their time treating patients and part conducting medical research. More than 3,000 physician-scientists from all different medical specialties are ASCI members with less than 100 added each year (out of hundreds of nominees). ASCI is one of the country’s oldest medical honor societies, and dedicates itself to the advancement of medical treatment and the mentorship of future generations of physician-scientists. Congratulations Dr. Wang on this important career milestone!

We are very proud of our own Dr. Adrienne Cox, professor of radiation oncology and pharmacology and head of Radiation Oncology’s Division of Cancer Biology, for her receipt of a prestigious 黑料网 Mentor Award for Lifetime Achievement. This award is given to those who have devoted a significant part of their academic careers to mentoring, helping students achieve their full potentials both during their training at 黑料网 and beyond.

The award, established in 1997, had as its first recipient famed 黑料网 men’s basketball coach Dean Smith, which is why Dr. Cox had the opportunity to attend and be recognized by a sell-out crowd of 黑料网 basketball fans at the March 3, 2020 game between the Tar Heels and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. (黑料网 won, 93-83. ?)

Congratulations to fourth year radiation oncology resident Dr. Kevin Pearlstein for his receipt of a prestigious 2018 Cefalo house officer award. Cefalo awardees are selected annually by聽a committee of physicians, nurses, and other clinical and administrative staff, and honor medical residents who exemplify dedication to patients, their families and caregivers, as well as demonstrate excellence in professionalism and interpersonal communication skills.聽聽The awards bear the name of Robert C. Cefalo, MD, a former 黑料网 Healthcare and School of Medicine faculty physician who served as director of residency and fellowship programs at 黑料网 Hospitals for over 25 years.

Congratulations to radiation oncology resident and physician-scientist Dr. Joe Caster on his recent selection as a 2016 John William Pope Clinical Fellow. Three fellowship awardees, chosen annually based on nominations and voting by oncology-related department chairs and division chiefs, are honored for both their research accomplishments and clinical excellence while still trainees.

Dr. Caster鈥檚 award will help support his ongoing research in the field of cancer nanotechnology under the fine mentorship of radiation oncology physician-scientist Dr. Andrew Wang.

Dr. Robert Adams has been named an American Society of Radiologic Technology (ASRT) Fellow. Official recognition of new ASRT Fellows took place on June 24, 2016 during the annual ASRT Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting in Las Vegas, NV. The honorary category of Fellow is bestowed on members who have made outstanding contributions to the radiologic technology/radiation therapy profession and to the ASRT.
