My research is focused on developing MRI methods with applications to investigate physiology in neurovascular diseases of the retina and brain. These developments include imaging methods to measure layer-specific blood flow of the retina, high-resolution functional MRI to detect physiologically induced changes in the retina, and multiple methods to image water exchange between blood and tissue using MRI. I am applying these novel imaging techniques to investigate pathophysiology of retinal disease such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. I am also researching the use of these sophisticated MRI techniques to investigate neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, and traumatic brain injury and in normal aging.
