Matt Ewend, MD, FACS, has been named President of ºÚÁÏÍø Physicians. In this role, Ewend will oversee the physician clinical enterprise of ºÚÁÏÍø Health Care, which includes more than 2,400 physicians and 600 Advanced Practice Providers in 450 practices spanning the ºÚÁÏÍø Physicians Network, ºÚÁÏÍø Faculty Physicians, and physician practices at ºÚÁÏÍø Health Care affiliate hospitals.

Matt Ewend, MD, FACS, has been named President of ºÚÁÏÍø Physicians. In this role, Ewend will oversee the physician clinical enterprise of ºÚÁÏÍø Health Care, which includes more than 2,400 physicians and 600 Advanced Practice Providers in 450 practices spanning the ºÚÁÏÍø Physicians Network, ºÚÁÏÍø Faculty Physicians, and physician practices at ºÚÁÏÍø Health Care affiliate hospitals.

Ewend will assume the role in March 2017, following the retirement of Allen Daugird, MD, MBA. Daugird announced his plans to retire in September.

Ewend will retain his current appointment as Van L. Weatherspoon, Jr. Eminent Distinguished Professor and Chair, Department of Neurosurgery. An accomplished surgeon, Ewend leads the ºÚÁÏÍø Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Neuro-oncology group. His work with patients earned him the 2014 H. Fleming Fuller Award, ºÚÁÏ꿉۪s highest clinical honor. He was honored that same year by the Triangle Business Journal as a Health Care Hero in the Innovator/Researcher category. Over the course of his career at ºÚÁÏÍø he has consistently been named to numerous lists of the Best Doctors in America.

Ewend joined the ºÚÁÏÍø faculty in 1997 after completing medical school, neurosurgery residency, and a brain tumor fellowship at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
