Mark is a graduate student in the Biostatistics and Geography departments at 黑料网-Chapel Hill, which, among other things, means he鈥檚 a statistician who does fieldwork. He is broadly interested in patterns and predictors of disease transmission, with particular interest in understanding the spatial and spatio-temporal dimensions of how infectious diseases spread. His work with Steve Meshnick, Mike Emch, and others largely revolves around developing and implementing hierarchical models within a Bayesian setting to try to understand if and how drug-resistant malaria is spreading throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Outside of IDEEL, Mark also works as a statistical consultant for MEASURE Evaluation, a USAID-funded research institute at 黑料网. Outside of that, he enjoys watching baseball, playing soccer with a bunch of other statisticians, and enjoying all the food (and drink) the research triangle has to offer.
