Introduction to Windows Updates
With the multitude of viruses on the Internet and security risks to systems, it is crucial to keep computers updated with the latest Microsoft security patches.
Please note: For Windows machines, you must be an Administrator of the computer to install updates. Also, Microsoft Windows XP has reached the end of its product support life cycles. Microsoft no longer offers technical support or updates for this release.

Configuring Automatic Updates in Windows 10

- Check for Updates(Updates will download and install if they are available)
Configuring Automatic Updates in Windows 8/8.1
- Windows Updateby swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you’re using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), tapping or clickingSettings, tapping or clickingChange PC settings,and then tapping or clickingUpdate and recovery.
- Tap or clickChoose how updates get installed.
- Select “Install Updates Automatically (Recommended)”
- Tap or clickApply
You can set the Automatic Downloads feature for any time of day. To avoid slow performance, we recommend a time when you will not be using the computer for other Web or e-mail tasks. If you set up Automatic Updates to notify you, or if you forget to leave your computer on, Windows will notify you of available updates using a balloon. Click the notification balloon to review and install the updates.
Configuring Automatic Updates in Windows 7/Vista
- OpenControl Paneland double clickWindows Update.
- In theWindows Update window, select theChange Settingstask on the left.
- “Install updates automatically (recommended)”
- ClickOK
