Dr. Butch Uejima, Former Chair of the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine and Chief Medical Officer at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware, as well as Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, delivered an inspiring lecture about what it takes to be a good leader, leaving attendees with valuable takeaways to apply in their own leadership journeys.
If you did not have a chance to join us during the live lecture, please visit the FALD workshops page to watch the recording of this lecture.
We are excited to continue this initiative and invite departments to apply for the 2026 “Leadership Starts With Me” Visiting Professorship. The “Leadership Starts With Me” Visiting Professorship is a new, annual initiative sponsored by the Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development (FALD). This program is designed to bring distinguished leaders to our campus to share valuable insights on leadership in academic medicine. Departments will have the ability to select their own visiting professor, and FALD will co-sponsor the event and contribute to honorarium, travel, and event expenses. If your department is interested in applying for this opportunity, look for the application announcement in Vital Signs and in FALD emails and newsletters. Please reach out to Carrie Jackman-Hoyle at carrie_hoyle@med.unc.edu.
Let’s continue fostering leadership excellence together!
