The (IHI) offers IHI Open School, online courses that teach the foundations of improvement, safety, system design and leadership. IHQI strongly recommends IHI’s Open School courses as they offer exceptional content and are very well-produced.

IHI Open School is free to faculty, residents and students. When you , type in, “ºÚÁÏÍø – Chapel Hill, NC” for the organization. If you are faculty, select “Teacher/Professor” as your primary role on the demographic information page. You should then be able to access the full catalog of courses. Complete are explained by IHI. At ºÚÁÏÍø Health, Lean Six Sigma training is provided by the department of Operational Efficiency (OE). OE offers training in Yellow Belt, Blue Belt, Purple Belt and Kaizen Coach. For more information you can email oe@unchealth.unc.edu.

ºÚÁÏÍø launched a graduate certificate in Improvement Science & Implementation.

The three-course, nine credit-hour program adopts a flipped classroom model, with asynchronous lectures, readings, podcasts, and video, blended with in-person weekend project-based learning. The courses are:

  • Change Leadership & System Improvement
  • Design Thinking for the Public Good
  • Implementation and Equity
