
The Department of Genetics joined together with the Department of Pharmacology, the Curriculum in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB), the Curriculum in Genetics and Molecular Biology (GMB), and the Office of Rural Initiatives to participate in a day of community outreach with “Heal Day with the Heels”.

This event welcomed groups of students to the campus from Gaston Early Medical College and Wilmington Early College High School to learn about medical school, graduate school, career opportunities, and even get “hands-on” experience in science. Students were welcomed by Genetics Chair Fernando Pardo Manuel de Villena, BCB and GMB Graduate Student Services Manager John Cornett, and Pharmacology Graduate Student Services Manager April Villanueva. The event included a panel of graduate students from GMB, BCB, and PHCO discussing their journeys to . After the panel, information sessions and hands-on activities were held with students and faculty.
