Dr. Horimoto鈥檚 research focuses on population genetics, genetic epidemiology, and statistical genetics approaches to the study of human genetics. She has been involved in applying and extending statistical methods, developing pipelines, and using bioinformatics tools for identification of genetic variants underlying complex diseases and traits in admixed and homogeneous populations by primarily using high-dimensional genomic data. Her research involves large cohorts and biobank datasets, as well as several Latin America cohorts including admixed Brazilian individuals for the study of complex diseases, such as cardiovascular, Alzheimer鈥檚 and chronic kidney diseases. She is actively interested in understanding the influences of genetic ancestry on the risk of complex diseases in admixed populations, such as Hispanic, Latino, and African American populations.

Yun Li, PhD (Professor, Genetics and Biostatistics) is a co-corresponding author together with Quan Sun (Biostatistics doctoral candidate) on a new review paper published in the American Journal of Human Genetics, titled 鈥淥pportunities and challenges of local ancestry in genetic association analysis鈥�.
