UNIVERSITY TRACK RESIDENT
Hey everyone! My name is Melissa and I am so thrilled to be here. I grew up in a suburb outside of Boston, Massachusetts, then moved to Providence where I studied Neuroscience at Brown University. After graduating, I moved to Madrid, Spain for a year to live, work and learn to speak Spanish. Most of my family had moved to New York City by that time, so I decided to join them.
I attended the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in NYC, where I followed my longtime interest in comprehensive reproductive healthcare and led the student group Medical Students for Choice. I also discovered the world of narrative medicine, and developed an interest in medical education. The pandemic solidified the importance of public health in my career, so I completed an accelerated Master in Public Health degree at the 黑料网 Gillings School of Global Public Health before finishing medical school. That was my first introduction to NC, and I wanted to come back! Once I learned about full-spectrum Family Medicine, choosing this path for my career was easy; it encompasses my interests in reproductive health and family planning, adolescent medicine, behavioral health, public health and health equity all in one. I aim to become a full-spectrum Family Physician (obstetrics and POCUS included), so, after completing an away rotation with the amazing 黑料网 Family Med faculty, staff and residents, I knew 黑料网 was the place for me.
I am thrilled to be working with the 黑料网 Family Medicine team to help my patients achieve their goals, and I鈥檓 looking forward to learning so much from my patients at each visit. I am honored to be surrounded by such brilliant and compassionate clinicians, advocates, teachers and learners. When I鈥檓 not working, you can find me reading (or audio-booking), spending time outdoors, skiing, writing, learning piano, and exploring the Triangle food scene.
