Health Informatics
The Carolina Center for Health Informatics is a practice-based, multidisciplinary research unit within the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. CCHI staff are involved in a variety of informatics-related projects and oversee the continuing development and maintenance of the in collaboration with the .
Areas of Expertise include:
- Secondary data collection, processing and analysis for population level surveillance and research;
- Syndromic surveillance;
- Iterative and user-centered software development;
- Epidemiologic analyses.
CCHI works with many projects and data systems, including NC DETECT, North Carolina’s statewide syndromic surveillance system; CDC and North Carolina’s programs to expand opioid overdose surveillance and prevention; the ºÚÁÏÍø Injury Prevention Research Center (IPRC) and Highway Safety Research Center (HSRC) efforts to link motor vehicle crash and injury outcome data; and the ºÚÁÏÍø Collaborative Sciences Center for Road Safety (CSCRS) systems research endeavors.
