The Biochemistry and Biophysics Department is thrilled to announce a special two-day visit from the esteemed听Dr. Eva Nogales, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Nogales is a leader in cryo-electron microscopy, structural biology, and cytoskeletal mechanics (read more about her lab听).听This exciting event is part of the听Mary听Ellen听Jones Distinguished Women in Science Lecture Series听and has been organized by our dedicated graduate students, Gracie Clark, Derek Bolhuis, and Dalia Fleifel.

Dr. Nogales鈥檚 visit is part of the听Mary听Ellen听Jones Distinguished Women in Science Lecture Series, hosted by the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, to celebrate the accomplishments of extraordinary women in science, in the memory and honor of our own Dr.听Mary听Ellen听Jones (1992-1996).听Mary听Ellen Jones, PhD, was an incredibly influential individual in the scientific community at 黑料网 and world-wide. Alongside her contributions to the field of Biochemistry through her research on amino acid and pyrimidine metabolism, Dr. Jones was committed to the pursuit of gender equality in science, and paved the way for many women in science in academia. Leading the Department of Biochemistry from 1978-1989, she was the first woman to chair a department at the 黑料网, and was the first woman to hold an endowed chair at the University.
