At the Internal Medicine clinic she sees patients in my faculty clinic a few days a week\, as well as precept residents in their continuity clinic and the same day clinic. She also attends on the inpatient General Medicine ward several weeks a year\, teaches in the School of Medicine\, and works on issues related to diversity\, equity\, and inclusion. Her family is from Haiti but she grew up in Northern Virginia. She knew she wanted to be a Primary Care physician ever since she realized I wanted to practice medicine\, as she appreciates the unique opportunity it grants to form long-lasting relationships with patients while addressing different aspects of their health. She looks forward to collaborating with and advocating for her patients and their families. In her free time she enjoys traveling\, dancing\, cooking\, reading\, watching TV\, and spending time with loved ones. \n\n\n\nInpatient Chief Resident: Portia Nleya\, MD\nPortia Nleya was born in Bulawayo\, Zimbabwe\, but moved to the United States when she was eight. Portia has spent most of her life in North Carolina. She attended for college\, where she studied Biology\, and later earned a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology at IU-Bloomington. Before returning to for medical school\, Portia worked as a public health advisor for the CDC in Richmond\, Virginia\, focusing on community outreach and immigrant health. Portia was excited to match at for her Internal Medicine Residency\, making her a triple Tar Heel. She looks forward to her role as inpatient chief\, engaging in education at all levels and fostering an open environment. After her chief year\, Portia plans to continue her career in academic primary care\, with a focus on being a clinician-educator. In her free time\, she enjoys board games\, playing the guitar\, videography\, and is an avid film enthusiast. In her current role\, she works collaboratively with Anesthesiology Education Leadership to develop and implement educational initiatives for anesthesiology staff to enhance their professional development as well as trainees to support their scholarly output. Ms. Moore previously spent 22 years in the Cleveland Clinic Education Institute serving as a Staff Editor for the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine and managing scholary activity skills training for GME trainees enterprise-wide. She holds a master’s degree in health professions education from a joint program between the Cleveland Clinic and Cleveland State University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Ohio University. She is currently working on a doctoral degree in Education via Penn State World Campus with a focus on women in academic leadership. Her professional interests include health professions education and scholarly activities.\n\n\n\nBeka Layton\, Ph. D.\,is the Director of Professional Development Programs. In this role\, she is responsible for career awareness and career development programming for biomedical PhD students.
