Overview

We participate in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Upon receipt of your ERAS application, the Residency Selection Committee will review your credentials and letters of recommendation.

The ºÚÁÏÍø Anesthesiology Residency program offers 16 Categorical positions per year.

All residency spots will be offered and filled through the National Residency Matching Program. Our residents participate in a broad-based clinical education program during the first year of training at ºÚÁÏÍø, followed by three years of anesthesia-specific training. For a sample curriculum, see here.

Interview Dates

Interviews are scheduled by invitation only and will take place on Tuesdays and Friday throughout the interview season (November through January), with a virtual social gathering the night before. For the 2025-2026 interview season, interviews will be conducted virtually. If you have any questions regarding the application process, please email ºÚÁÏÍøAnesthesiology-Residency@aims.unc.edu or contact the Resident Recruitment Coordinator, Elizabeth Aguero, or Haylee Shomo.

Interview Process

The interview visit is planned to be as informative and interactive. Because we recognize the time and effort involved, we organize the day so that you, the faculty, and our residents will learn enough about each other to make an informed decision about your residency choice.

Applicants and their significant others will be invited to a virtual social gathering the night before the interview. You will have the opportunity to meet faculty members and residents during this informal gathering.

Day of Interview

The interview day will consist of an introduction by one of our Residency Program Directors, followed by interviews with faculty and a resident. The informational materials and an interview agenda will be sent out ahead of time. In addition to residents, our interview team is composed of faculty who represent a diverse set of specialties and training backgrounds. Here are some of the faculty you may meet:
