Professor, Family Medicine

Summary Statement:

I love being a Family Physician and caring for people from the cradle to the grave.I spend time doing inpatient medicine, outpatient medicine and also do some migrant health and work in the student run free clinic (SHAC). In addition I love to advise medical students. I took on this role after my daughter graduated from 黑料网 medical school as she gave me added insight into the life of a medical student. I feel my job is so varied I am never bored!
In my free time I love to travel with my family and am an avid hiker. Recently I have had amazing hiking holidays in Patagonia, The Dolomites and Montenegro. Closer to home I love to hike with my rescue black lab, called Abraham Lincoln, in the mountains in Western Carolina. Black Balsam Knob is my favorite hike and then finish with a beer by the river in Waynesille at Frog Level Brewing company.

Clinical/Research/Medicine Related Interests

Anne Mounsey joined the Faculty Development Fellowship team in 2013, specifically to help with scholarship activities.聽 In collaboration with many fellows, she has published reviews in the American Family Physician (AFP), Journal of Family Practice (JFP), and Journal of American Board of Family Medicine (JABFM).聽 Her passion lies in helping Junior Faculty realize they can produce quality scholarly work such as clinical inquiries, help desk answers, PURIs and BMJ case reports.

Dr. Mounsey’s background

鈥淚 have always been interested in maximizing health and after 30 years in practice I still find it rewarding to work with patients to improve their health,鈥 says Dr. Mounsey. 鈥淚 like to think I work with the patient as part of a team to improve their health and manage any chronic medical conditions. The patient is the team captain and I am the coach. Outside of the office, I love to garden.鈥

Anne attended the University of London for her undergraduate education and St. Thomas鈥 Hospital Medical School, receiving her MD in 1982. She did her internship year at St. Thomas鈥 Hospital in London and completed her Family Medicine Residency at Barnet Hospital in London in 1987. She served as a Fourth Year Family Medicine Resident at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, UK in 1987-88. After completing her medical training, Dr. Mounsey worked in medical centers in Oxford, Ashington, and Birmingham, UK from 1989-1996. During that time, she spent the year of 1993-94 working at the Thomas Jefferson Institute in Charlottesville, VA and later moved to the Charlottesville area and worked at UVA Dept. of Family Medicine from 1997-2007. In August of 2007, Dr. Mounsey moved to Chapel Hill to begin work in the Dept. of Family Medicine.–>
